No Promotion after Serving the Same Post for Over 20 Years
23 November 2012 was a very memorable day because I joined the Meritorious Service Certificate Presentation Ceremony held by my boss, Social Welfare Department of Hong Kong Government. During the Ceremony, I received my 20-Years’ Meritorious Service Certificate in appreciation of my long and meritorious services in my first and probably the last career, as a Social Worker. It really symbolized my efforts paid and my contribution devoted in the past 20 years in my favourable helping profession.
Meritorious Service Certificate Presentation Ceremony Sarcastically, despite I did my work so well as I loved it so much, I did not have any promotion in my job in the past 20 years. It was because I got another profession, i.e. as an international table tennis player which, to certain extent, adversely affected my performing of duty and created backlog in my work when I needed to fly away from Hong Kong for numerous international table tennis tournaments. The bad consequence was that I could not get an excellent grade in my staff appraisal report which directly attributed to my no promotion in the past 20 years.
Yet, I do not feel regretful because I like both careers very much to work as a social worker and to act as a table tennis player. I know well that I need to sacrifice as it is not easy for one to have two enjoyable professions at the same time. Maybe I should not be so greedy though I still long for promotion!
